Dr Khalid Klefeekh Al Hajri, QCCI GM headed the meeting and Mrs. Tapolina Bankarebon, Head of the Indonesian delegation and the President of the promotion of investment in Riau province in Indonesia, in the presence of Ambassador Indonesian in Doha H.E Rozy Munir.
At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Khalid Al-Hajri delivered a speech welcoming the Indonesian delegation; he said that the volume of trade exchange between the two countries did not exceed 154 million dollars which falls far short of the ambitions and the available opportunities in both Qatar and Indonesia.
He pointed out that QCCI will exert every possible effort to strengthen relations of cooperation between businessmen in both countries in order to serve the promotion of trade and lift it to the level of ambition, pointing out that this meeting is an opportunity to develop economic cooperation and consolidate economic relations between the two sides, including help in the establishment Partnerships and alliances between businessmen in both countries.
For her part, Mrs. Tapolina Bankarebon, Head of the Indonesian delegation during a speech pointed out that this meeting is an opportunity to identify investment opportunities in both countries, exchange of information, adding that Qatar has the capabilities and possibilities allow it to redirect part of foreign investments into Indonesia, and said she hoped to Implement of part of these investments in Riau province.
Mrs. Tapolina Bankarebon spoke about investment opportunities available in Riau province, which occupies third place in Indonesia in terms of volume of foreign investments, said that Riau province produces 60 per cent of the volume of Indonesia's oil production and the province is the main producer of natural gas, coal, rubber and cocoa.
She called Qatari businessmen to invest in Indonesia, said that Indonesia is characterized as it mediates global trade routes, making it attractive country for foreign investment, and that the government provide incentives for foreign investors, characterized by further diversifying the economy.
His Excellency Mr. Munir Rosie Indonesian Ambassador to Doha delivered a speech in which he pointed out that this meeting is the first economic forum held by the Indonesian Riau province in Qatar, expressing his desire to continue such meetings which contribute to boosting relations between the two countries.
He praised the economic boom witnessed by the State of Qatar, also praised the diplomatic relations between the two countries, said that the volume of trade exchange between Qatar and Indonesia does not rise to the level of diplomatic relations, pointing out that the country imports from Indonesia represents one per cent of total imports in the State of Qatar.
He pointed out that in order to boost trade exchange between the two countries last year was the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two countries in the area of economic cooperation were also signed an agreement for cooperation between banks, pointing out that Qatar Islamic Bank has opened a branch in Indonesia.
The Indonesian Ambassador invited businessmen to attend the Indonesia Expo to be held in Indonesia next October.
